DID THE DEMOCRATS ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS

THE DEMOCRATS GET AN "F" WITH ADDRESSING EVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERNS AFFECTING THE TOWN OF OCEANPORT

From the time the Democrats of Oceanport have been in power for the last twenty-two years, our elected Democrats have not been very vigilant in protecting the citizens from Public Health issues, nor have they made a very good effort with addressing the Environmental concerns affecting the town. There is no excuse for not addressing this area of concern.

In researching the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection website you can see all the areas that have been formally documented as being contaminated locations within the Borough of Oceanport.

You can also click on these two websites to view this information:

There are a few points of interest here.

Monmouth Park has been listed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as a contaminated site since May 30, 2001. That's right. All under the Democratic Controlled Town. It is obvious that Monmouth Park has been an environmental concern for quite some time. This concern should certainly open the eyes of those citizens who value the great natural resources and wildlife of the town.

The Old Shell Station at the intersection of Main Street and Oceanport Ave, near the Fort Monmouth Marina is listed as contaminated. This site is currently an eyesore and also considered a contaminated location. That's right, this location is situated on the Shrewsbury River. Could this be another location contaminating the river? This has been abandon for a few years now and obviously an environmental concern that should be addressed by our Mayor. Why isn't the current Mayor dealing with this issue? How come the public is not made aware of this information through our Mayor? What is the Public the last to know?

And the best one out of all the locations listed as a Contaminated, is 222 Monmouth Blvd., which is none other than Borough Hall. That is correct, the site of our own Municipal Building has been classified by the State as a contaminated location. This just shows you that the lack of any leadership under the Democratic controlled town. Is the current leadership actually harming the environment?

Obviously there are sites on Fort Monmouth that are considered contaminated. Isn't the current Mayor on the "Reuse Committee"?

I hope the town does not get sold a bag of goods and get stuck with cleaning up contaminated locations on Fort Monmouth Property. I hope someone has the presence of mind to address these concerns before the Borough is given the property.

The issue of the Monmouth Race Track contaminating Branchport Creek has been brought to the attention of the public by Councilwoman Ellen Kahle.
She took the lead on this one and held a press conference to inform the public. Good Job Ellen Kahle for bringing this out to the public, and not suppressing this information. Currently the track and the State are working hard to rectify this problem.

Here is the article that appeared in the "HUB NEWSPAPER" click on this link for the article: http://hub.gmnews.com/news/2006/0824/Front_page/003.html

The statement made by our current Mayor says it all: Oceanport Mayor Lucille A. Chaump said in an interview Monday, "I am very concerned about this and we are doing the background research to find the source".

Doing the Research? The DEP knew that Monmouth Park was a problem back in 2001 and the Mayor of Oceanport did not have a clue?

If you are concerned about the future of Oceanport, please ask the current Mayor what she intends to do to clean-up the contaminated sites, and more specifically the one at Borough Hall. Why aren't there any signs posted on location of these contaminated sites to alert the public of these hazards.
